In the fast-paced world of Commander, every card slot counts. But amidst the flashy legends and explosive spells, don’t overlook the humble 1-drop creature. These tiny titans, costing a mere single mana, pack a surprising punch in the format, serving a multitude of roles beyond just early beats.
10. Warden of the Inner Sky
Warden of the Inner Sky, is it the best? No. Is it the worst? No. The reason why this one drop made the list is because of the repeatable scry effect. If you can continuously untap your creatures, this one drop will constantly help you filter the top of your deck so you can draw the cards you want.
9. Mother of Runes
Mother of Runes, grandma has arrived in magic and is looking to protect the family. Mother of Runes can protect your most crucial creature from being removed or blocked by your opponents. If your playgroup runs a lot of removal and your deck is commander-reliant, always run Mother of Runes to protect them.
8. Dauntless Bodyguard
Dauntless Bodyguard, now we are getting into the really good humans. Dauntless bodyguard offers any creature protection not only from single target removal, but also from board wipes. If you have recursion in your deck, this can be one of the best one drop protection human in your entire deck.
7. Thraben Inspector
Thraben Inspector, card draw is imperative in your overall game plan in Commander. Thraben Inspector can be your outlet for dabbling into early-game card draw if your commander deck needs it. I recommend trying it out in your deck and I almost guarantee that you will have a positive experience with this card.
6. Recruitment Officer
Recruitment Officer, so a one drop that allows you to look at the top four of your deck to get the best three converted mana cost creature to your hand. THAT IS REPEATABLE FOR ONLY FOUR MANA. If you have a creature-based deck with a low creature curve, you need to be running this card.
5. Hopeful Initiate
Hopeful Initiate, if your a +1/+1 counter creature based deck. This is the one drop you NEED to run in your deck because IT IS REPEATABLE REMOVAL at the cost of three mana and removing two +1/+1 counters from any creature you control.
4. Mikaeus, the Lunarch
Mikaeus, the Lunarch, remember Hopeful Initiate just above this card? Well, I would like you to meet the human that will make his effect pop off. Mikaeus not only enters as big as you want him to be BUT ALSO BUFFS YOUR BOARD. All you need to do is tap him; every creature you have gets a counter. BONUS IF YOU HAVE WAYS TO UNTAP HIM!
3. Weathered Wayfarer
Weathered Wayfarer, your one-drop human that can search your library FOR ANY LAND as long as an opponent has more lands than you. As far as one drops go, this card can keep you from falling behind in your game as long as someone has at least one more land than you at any given time. I would always activate his effect on other people’s turn or your turn if you’re going to miss a land drop.
2. Giant Killer
Giant Killer, a removal spell on a 1 drop human? This is easily one of the best one drop human made in magic. This card is the definition of power creep! If you are considering if this card is good enough in your human deck, just run it. Combined with an effect like Ranger-Captain of Eos this card screams utility.
1. Esper Sentinel
Esper Sentinel, who would have guessed this would be the best one drop in magic? I would have! This card is fantastic as it can draw you cards throughout the whole game. With the pseudo rhystic study effect, this card has hands down made an unplayable hand playable.
